Joan's Farm & Pumpkin Patch is an "Unforgettable Family Exerience". The Pumpkin Patch was established in 1990 amid a grove of centuries-old Sycamore trees and is located four miles south of downtown Livermore by Mocho Creek. This unique "Oasis" on Mines Road is also a true working Cattle Ranch raising Angus and Hereford Cattle. The ranch comes to life in October when the entire emphasis is on the Pumpkin Patch. Guests are invited to enjoy and feed the animals, find their way through the maze, pan for gem stones, play in the play area, walk around the old western town and envision living 100 years ago. Don't forget to visit Fort Maze, tour the antique farm equipment museum, eat until your heart's content at Joan's Cafe, or select your "sweet treat" at the Sweet and Treat building. Of course there are a variety of many pumpkins to choose from as well as different types of winter squash, Indian Corn, gourds, and more.

This is an experience you won't want to miss. We are open daily from 9 am - 6 pm, October 1 - 31. There is no parking or entry fee. Livermore Valley Opera - The Abduction from Seraglio
Mozart ushered in a new era in music history with this first of his operatic masterpieces. It tells of the rescue of the young Spaniard Konstanze and her English maid Blonchen by their fiancés Belmonte and Pedrillo from the Ottoman Palace of Pasha Selim and his ferocious henchman, Osmin. Mozart transcends the popular “Turkish Music” fashion of the time with an opera of great emotional depth, combined with lighthearted scenes of hilarious comedy. Virtuoso singing and brilliant orchestration previously unheard in Vienna prompted Emperor Joseph II (of movie Amadeus fame) to exclaim “Too many notes!” Sung in German with English dialogue and supertitles.

Joel Breakstone - Rae Dorough Speaker Series
With an election in November and the dark cloud of Russian interference still hanging over the US electoral system, the ability of citizens to assess the veracity of online information remains a critical issue. Fake news is certainly a problem. However, it’s not the biggest. The Internet is filled with content that defies labels like “fake” or “real.” Determining who’s behind information and whether it’s worthy of trust is more complex than a true/false dichotomy. Joel Breakstone, who directs Stanford University’s History Education Group, will discuss a report that revealed how a dismaying number of otherwise digitally fluent students were unable to evaluate the credibility of information they found online. He also will describe curriculum and assessments that his group has developed based on research about how professional fact checkers evaluate online content.

Filipino Barrio Fiesta

Filipino Barrio Fiesta
October officially marks Filipino American History Month in the United States. October’s significance as Filipino American History Month is due to the first recorded presence of Filipinos in the continental United States when on October 18, 1587, “Luzones Indios” came ashore from the Spanish galleon Nuestra Senora de Esparanza and landed at what is now Morro Bay, California.
In November of 2009, both the United States House of Representatives and Senate passed laws – House Resolution 780 and Senate Resolution 298 respectively, officially recognizing October as Filipino American History Month in the United States.

Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center and Livermore Fil-Am will celebrate Filipino American History Month with Filipino Barrio Fiesta on Sunday, October 7. This year’s theme is the Trinity of Past, Present, Future. This free three-hour community event will begin at 11:00 a.m. and end at 2:00 pm. Throughout the event, there will be performances by the Livermore Fil-Am Dance Troupe, Kali Association of America, DJ Bitesize, Arthur Barinque and Denise Bridges, and Granada Hip Hop Club to name a few. The keynote speaker this year will be Robyn Rodriguez, Professor and Department Chair of Asian American Studies at UC Davis. An altar will be on display to pay respect to those Fil-Am that came before. Throughout the day there will be Filipino food available for sale, a historical exhibit showcasing Filipino American art, culture, and history, an awards presentation, as well as a mental health awareness area. There will also be a community map project which will allow people to trace their family’s immigration from parts of the world to America.

Join us to learn more about Filipino American culture. All activities will take place on the plaza in front of the Bankhead Theater at 2400 First Street in downtown Livermore.

This is the third year Filipino Barrio Fiesta has been held on the plaza and is one of many free family-oriented cultural events the Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center sponsors throughout the year. Among the events are the Native American Day in September, the upcoming Diwali: Festival of the Lights at the beginning of November, a Chinese New Year celebration in February, and Hispanic Heritage Day in May.

LA Theatre Works - Steel Magnolias
Steel Magnolias is a powerful story of resilience and friendship that features a diverse cast of six extraordinary women in this L.A. Theater Work’s production. Throughout our lives, we encounter those with whom we share an indescribable bond. Whether a sibling, a childhood pal, a college roommate, or a coworker—these are the special people we go to any lengths to support and with whom we can disagree strongly, while loving deeply. They change our lives just by being in them and our connection defies the limits of distance and time.

Within the walls of Truvy’s beauty shop, set in the deep Bayou of Louisiana, are six women whose lives increasingly hinge on the existence of one another. Together, they absorb the passing seasons, just like the weathered wooden structure of the salon “home” that they share. The play by Robert Harling made its New York City debut in 1987 and has been staged in productions around the globe, as well as memorialized in the iconic film version starring Sally Fields, Dolly Parton, and Julia Roberts. At turns both laugh-out-loud funny and deeply touching, filled with memorable characters, Steel Magnolias reveals the strength of the human condition and our shared need for companionship.

Art Walk Livermore
Downtown Livermore will once again be filled with art lovers enjoying a day of art, music and shopping.

A community celebration of the arts sponsored by the Bothwell Arts Center, ArtWalk returns to downtown Livermore on Saturday, October 13, 2018. From 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., handmade and original works by over 200 artists can be enjoyed, as well as live music, cultural arts demonstrations, and crafts for children. The event offers a priceless opportunity for artists to interact with visitors as they explore a broad range of works, ranging from contemporary to classical, abstract to realism, pottery to jewelry and mixed media. Subject matter is equally broad, from floral to figurative and more. During ArtWalk, displays are clustered throughout downtown parks, sidewalks, galleries, wine bars, restaurants and shops, highlighting all downtown Livermore has to offer and honoring art as the theme of the day.

Live music will fill the downtown area with the sounds of a variety of artists. Phil Didlake and his drum circle will be located on McLeod Street between First and Second Street, which will be closed during ArtWalk for the first time and filled with artists’ booths. Shawn Thwaite’s steel drums will be heard at Lizzie Fountain and cultural arts music and dance groups have been scheduled throughout the day on the plaza outside the Bankhead Theater. The Livermore Cultural Arts Council will present Wambo’s Combo and Kyle Kahldusdhal at Livermorium Park. Nearby, visitors will have the opportunity to participate in Recycled Rodeo, a hands-on community art project for all ages that will create temporary sculptures using recycled materials. To help everyone see all there is to see at ArtWalk, bicycle rickshaws, powered for the day by All Together Mobile Bike Rentals, can be used to visit all the parks and participating galleries.

Most artwork is available for purchase and those who purchase more than $200 in art, jewelry, crafts or other products at ArtWalk are eligible to enter a special raffle drawing for a hand-painted wooden box filled with select local wines. Visitors can stop by local restaurants and cafes which are all open during the event and a tasting booth featuring Big White House wines which will be set up in Livermorium Park.

In addition to the artwork set up on the plaza and inside the theater lobby, the Gallery at the Bankhead is exhibiting “The Art of Drama.” Curated by the Bothwell Arts Center, the exhibit features over 60 works that express the concept of drama as seen through the eyes of a variety of local artists and will be on display through the end of October.

Now in its 17th year, ArtWalk is run by the Bothwell Arts Center. Operated by Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center, the Bothwell is located at 2466 8th Street and has served as an arts incubator since 2006, offering affordable and rentable classroom, rehearsal, performance, event, and studio rental space for artists, musicians, actors and others with a cultural arts focus. ArtWalk serves as a key fundraiser for the Bothwell’s ongoing activities. Their largest fundraiser of the year will be “The Golden Age of Hollywood” Gala planned for February 2, 2019 at the Bothwell.

The Cotton Blossom show boat steams into town and the performers and crowd intermingle. Cap’n Andy’s daughter Magnolia(Kathryn Grayson) falls in love with a riverboat gambler Gaylord Ravenal (Howard Keel) posing as an actor. When deep Southern prejudice results in the departure of leading lady Julie LaVerne (Ava Gardner) and her husband, Magnolia and Ravenal take their places in the show. The passing of time proves that the comedy and drama of life is not so different, on or off the stage, with music from lively song and dance tunes to “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man” and the unforgettable “Ol’ Man River.”

"Red" by John Logan
Written by John Logan, the taut and compelling Tony Award-winning play “Red” captures a pivotal period in the tumultuous career of abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko. At the peak of his career in the late-1950s, Rothko was given an extremely lucrative commission to create a set of large murals for the new Four Seasons restaurant in New York. Even as he throws himself into the creation of the work, he broods over the arc of his career and weighs the commission’s impact on his artistic relevance. In the studio, Rothko verbally spars with his young assistant Ken, whose emerging confidence in his own skills and sense of the changing times inspires him to challenge the master even as he learns from him.

Directed by Misty Megia, “Red” will run for five performances at the Bankhead Theater from October 18-21. In what will be a first for the Bankhead, both the set and audience seating will be positioned on the stage creating an intimate and engaging theater-in-a-theater setting.

“Red” made its debut in London in 2009, featuring actors Alfred Molina (Rothko) and Eddie Redmayne (Ken), and transferred to Broadway for a limited run, achieving tremendous critical acclaim and praise as “something rare in modern drama: a totally convincing portrait of the artist as a working visionary.” In 2010 “Red” was presented with the Tony Award for Best Play and Redmayne won for Featured Actor.

Mustangs of the West
MUSTANGS OF THE WEST is a band with west coast roots steeped in both classic California country and folk rock: equal parts Emmylou Harris and Stevie Nicks, mixed with the harmonies of The Eagles and early Beach Boys. Band members Sherry Rayn Barnett, Suzanna Spring, Holly Montgomery, Suzanne Morissette Cruz and Aubrey Richmond have crafted a signature sound of three-part vocal harmonies, jangly guitars and fiddle, driven by a solid rhythm section of bass and drums. “T-Shirt From California” is the group’s first single release on Blue Élan Records.

Journalist and music industry veteran Bill Bentley has described “T-Shirt From California”, written by lead singer Suzanna Spring, with this review … “as classic a heart-tugging Southern California song as anything heard since The Eagles were trying to check out of the Hotel California”. During 2017 the group showcased in Los Angeles and in Seattle, opening for Junior Brown at The Rose in Pasadena, for The Bellamy Brothers in Phoenix — plus headlining a summer concert series in Southern California.

With original new songs, and a sparkly new Americana sound, MUSTANGS OF THE WEST are ready to break new ground, bringing California country back with them!

The MUSTANGS OF THE WEST are:
SUZANNA SPRING, lead vocals/songwriter/acoustic guitar
SHERRY RAYN BARNETT, lead electric guitar, vocals
HOLLY MONTGOMERY, bass/vocals
SUZANNE MORISSETTE, drums, vocals
AUBREY RICHMOND, fiddle/vocals
