Al Franken
Take this rare opportunity to hear from the only speaker on the lecture circuit whose career spans from winning four Emmy Awards during 15 seasons on Saturday Night Live, to serving 10 years as a United States Senator for the State of Minnesota. Along the way, Al Franken has also written four New York Times #1 best-sellers, taken home two Grammy Awards, topped the list of progressive talk show hosts, and delighted audiences everywhere with his dry wit and unique perspective.

Franken was at Saturday Night Live during the early days with Gilda, Chevy, Belushi, and Aykroyd and stayed as a host of newcomers arrived including Chris Rock and Chris Farley. While there, he joined with Jim Downey, a Republican, to write much of Saturday Night Live’s political satire, the two finding common ground with observations that made audiences laugh regardless of their political views. After leaving SNL, he took a far more acerbic approach with such best-selling books as “Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations,” and “Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right.” From 2004-2007, he was the top progressive radio talk show host in the country.

In 2008, Franken was elected to the US Senate and then re-elected in 2014, leading on such issues as health care, education, privacy, and arbitration. Since leaving that post, he has focused his Al Franken Podcast on important issues facing the country, from the Supreme Court to climate change, voicing his ideas with his trademark intelligence and humor and never ever afraid to “tell it like it is.”

Happy Birthday, Elvis! - The "Early Elvis Tribute" Show
January 8 marks the 85th Birthday of Musical Icon ELVIS PRESLEY…and his legacy lives on.

Pleasanton’s Firehouse Arts Center kicks off a new year with the welcome return of Jim Anderson & The Rebels and their homage to Elvis Presley and their special “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ELVIS” matinee show on Sunday, January 9 at 2pm.

JIM ANDERSON has made quite a name for himself with his tribute to the early years and early hits of Elvis Presley. Jim is not an ‘Elvis Impersonator’. He is, however, thought by many to be the best interpreter of ‘Early Elvis’ around.

For those who had the opportunity to see and hear Elvis Presley in the first half of his career (1954-1966), this show will bring back favorite memories. For those who never had the opportunity to see Elvis when his brand of rock ‘n’ roll was considered too dangerous for “the youth of today,” this show will take you back in time and introduce the songs that changed the direction of music for decades to come.

Dubbed the “KING OF ROCK AND ROLL”, Elvis is regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century…and beyond. From “HEARTBREAK HOTEL” and “HOUND DOG”, to “DON’T BE CRUEL” and “JAILHOUSE ROCK”, these are the songs that keep the legend alive. JIM ANDERSON, along with his rockin’ band – THE REBELS, recreates the sound, the songs, and the memories to join crowds in Memphis and fans all over the world to say…HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ELVIS!

Midnight Flyer: A Tribute to the Eagles
Audiences and critics alike love the Midnight Flyer band’s energy and spot-on recreation of The Eagles’ music. This Bay Area group is considered one of the premier Eagles tribute acts, packing theaters and selling out shows along the West Coast and beyond. With a repertoire of more than 100 songs, Midnight Flyer shines in concert with arrangements and vocal harmonies, delivered with the authenticity and vitality that recall the earliest Eagles performances.

Midnight Flyer is not a traditional tribute band. Every member of the band is a veteran musician who loves re-creating The Eagles’ music exactly as we all remember it. Their performances are unique among the many theatrical tributes that exist today, focusing on delivering energetic, note-for-note vocal and instrumental performances of the Eagles’ music. Midnight Flyer will also occasionally surprise audiences with songs by other favorite groups from the Eagles’ era, such as The Doobie Brothers, Poco, Crosby, Stills and Nash and others.

The Queen's Cartoonists
In answer to the question, “Is it possible to create jazz and classical music concerts in the 21st century that appeal to everyone – even people who normally wouldn’t go?” The Queen’s Cartoonists offer a show that reaches everyone, regardless of age, gender, or familiarity with the concert hall. Six world-class professional musicians, all currently living in Queens, New York, play music from classic cartoons and contemporary animation, synchronizing their performances to video projections of the original films, and leading audiences through a world of virtuosic musicianship, multi-instrumental mayhem, and hilarious comedy.

Tying this diverse concert together are comedic anecdotes involving the cartoons and their composers. The band is on a musical mission that is equal parts performance, preservation, and education. Expect the unexpected from repertoire that includes the Golden Age of animation, cult cartoon classics, modern animation, and elements of a musical circus!

Since their inception in 2015, The Queen’s Cartoonists have brought their unique sound to performing arts centers in over 20 states and have opened for the New York Philharmonic.

We Banjo 3
Brilliantly commanded instruments––banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, and percussion––effortlessly elevate lead singer David Howley’s propulsive voice. Live on stage, their songs carry the listener along until, at the perfect moment, the band crescendos into catchy choruses with pitch perfect harmonies. We Banjo 3 deliver their music with such palpable rapport, stunning precision, and infectious energy, it’s impossible to pigeonhole what kind of listener might suddenly consider themselves a WB3 fan. Actor/comedian and musician Steve Martin says of the band, “We Banjo 3…are making waves…here in America. They are playing the banjo in a style that I didn’t even know could be played like that.”
