Livermore Valley Opera - A Florentine Tragedy & Gianni Schicchi
Two one-act operas – one a tragedy, one a comedy, both set in Florence. Based on fragmentary tales by two literary giants: Oscar Wilde in the first case, Dante Alighieri in the second. One tells a tale of jealousy and commerce, the other of greed and commerce. In A Florentine Tragedy, we have music and drama of Wagnerian intensity, in Gianni Schicchi brilliant comedy and one of the most memorable arias in all of opera. Both operas are guaranteed to captivate in utterly different ways. Sung in German and Italian with English supertitles.

The Gala begins with a Welcome Reception at 4:00 pm. Following will be a Dinner at 4:30 pm.
The Opening Night Gala dinner is held at Uncle Yu’s at the Vineyard, conveniently located at 39 South Livermore Avenue.

America’s defense establishment needs to keep pace with technological change that has given rise to a range of new weaponry – hypersonic missiles to an arsenal of cyber weapons. Our armed forces remain organized around aircraft carriers, tanks and bombers – weapons of an earlier era. John Arquilla, Distinguished Professor and Chair in the Dept. of Defense Analysis at the Naval Postgraduate School, will discuss the challenges and the forward thinking approaches needed to address the spectrum of new directions for our national defense.

Life in the Fast Lane - A Tribute to the Eagles
Starbright Entertainment presents this amazing tribute to one of the most successful bands of all time, The Eagles. With five number-one singles, six Grammy Awards, five American Music Awards, and six number-one albums, the Eagles were one of the most successful musical acts of the 1970s. At the end of the 20th century, two of their albums, Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) and Hotel California, were ranked among the 20 best-selling albums in the United States.

Since 1993, LIFE IN THE FAST LANE brilliantly re-creates the harmonic sounds of the legendary Eagles. Blending five-part harmonies and 3 guitars, LIFE IN THE FAST LANE tightly executes the magical compositions of such songs as Best of My Love, Witchy Woman, Lyin’ Eyes, The Long Run, and the exquisitely layered Hotel California. For over two decades, LIFE IN THE FAST LANE’S unstoppable medleys, seamless transitions, and note-perfect performances are going strong! Performed with enthusiasm, style and conviction, this production is truly the most authentic, spot on Eagles tribute yet! Leaving audiences begging for more. It’s an experience you’ll never forget!

Fiddler on the Roof (1971)
For Tevye (Chaim Topol), a poor milkman and his family of five daughters, life in their Jewish community in a small Russian village at the turn of the 20th Century seems straightforward. But as the country edges towards a revolution, their way of life is changing and Tevye struggles to preserve his religious, cultural and family traditions. When each of his three oldest daughters defy the village matchmaker’s plans and choose to marry for love instead, their choices take them away from Tevye’s traditions in ways that also represent the larger changes coming to his world. Adapted from the stage play which had opened on Broadway seven years earlier, the film was nominated for six Academy Awards and won three, including Best Music for a score filled with such familiar songs as “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Tradition,” and “Sunrise, Sunset.

The Passionate Piazzolla The Four Seasons - Pacific Chamber Orchestra
Until you have experienced Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons, you haven’t really lived. It will pull you on a journey into nuevo tango, then baroque and finally modern jazz. Your heart will probably beat to a different drum when he is done, and you will be better for it. Telemann returns your heart to a measured pace with Concerto for English Horn where sprightly horns treat you to the interplay of baroque melody lines. Change of pace for Shostakovich’s Two Pieces for String Octet, a wistful beginning to a dramatic homage to a dear friend lost turns on a dime to humor, then moodiness into delicacy, then fighting for musical supremacy. You could say “strange,” or learn what a modern Russian composer can do with strings. Vivaldi’s Concerto for Four Violins insists that you travel with him through three intense movements rippling like the sea. If you can go where words cannot, you will be glad for the invitation.

NT Live: The Audience
National Theatre Film Series Presents The Audience by Peter Morgan directed by Stephen Daldry

Academy Award®-winner Helen Mirren (The Queen), plays Queen Elizabeth II in the Tony Award®-winning production of The Audience. Captured live from London’s West End in 2013, the original broadcast returns to cinemas to mark National Theatre Live’s 10th birthday.

For 60 years, Queen Elizabeth II has met with each of her 12 prime ministers in a private weekly meeting. This meeting is known as The Audience. No one knows what they discuss, not even their spouses. From the old warrior Winston Churchill, to Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher and finally David Cameron, the Queen advises her prime ministers on all matters both public and personal. Through these private audiences, we see glimpses of the woman behind the crown and witness the moments that shaped a monarch.
