African Guitar Summit
Three Juno Award-winning guitarists from Canada, backed by bass and percussion, deliver an infectious style of music full of the rich flavors of their native Africa. This star-studded artists’ collective unite their skilled hands and voices to create musical magic. Inspired by each other and their shared stories, they combine their expert musicianship with their distinct cultural backgrounds and languages, to reach an incredible musical summit.

The smooth fire of guitarist Alpha YaYa Diallo from Guinea, joins two artists from Madagascar – the quicksilver guitars and harmonies of Donne Roberts and Madagascar Slim. The rhythmic talents of drummer Kofi Ackah from Ghana are backed by electric bass and ballafon (an African marimba) played by Naby Camara, also from Guinea. Their debut album “African Guitar Summit” won the Juno World Music Album of the Year in 2005 and their second album, “African Guitar Summit II,” repeated the win two years later. Since then, they have appeared together and as soloists, sharing their unique sound and energetic style with enthusiastic audiences across North America.

No band has been more wildly inventive or had more fun along the way to success than OK GO. From their first viral hit with the coordinated treadmills of “Here It Goes Again,” to their most recent paint-ball-exploding “The One Moment,” their visuals are as engaging and infectious as their power pop music.

Since they reached LA in the early 1990s, band members Damian Kulash, Tim Nordwind, Dan Konopka, and Andy Ross have been innovating not only their music and engaging visuals, but their approach to the entire entertainment industry. The infectious beat of their engaging songs and their limitless musical creativity have reached millions through their viral videos and collaborations with dance companies, technology innovators and The Muppets.

Bullets over Broadway The Musical - Tri-Valley Repertory Theater - Main Stage
Loaded with big laughs, colorful characters and the songs that made the ’20s roar, Bullets over Broadway The Musical is bringing musical comedy back with a bang. Based on the screenplay of the acclaimed 1994 film by Woody Allen and Douglas McGrath, this six-time Tony-nominated musical features existing hits from the 1920s, including “Let’s Misbehave,” “Tain’t Nobody’s Biz-ness If I Do” and “There’s a New Day Comin’!”

David Shayne is a straight-arrow playwright who plans to stand firm against compromising his work but quickly abandons that stance when his producer finds a backer to mount his show on Broadway. There’s just one catch, however: the backer is a mobster who sees Shayne’s play as a vehicle for his ditzy, talent-free girlfriend. Throw in an aging diva, a savant hit-man and a bevy of beautiful chorus girls, and this is one Broadway show that is sure to knock ’em dead.

This is rated PG-13 for mature content and language.

Manhattan Transfer
Celebrating their 45th anniversary in 2017, the Manhattan Transfer continues to set the standard as one of the world’s greatest and most innovative vocal groups with their sleek harmonies and distinctive sound. Their tight quartet of voices gives a modern twist to music from jazz standards to boogie-woogie and the blues. Among dozens of chart-topping hits, their renditions of “Route 66” and “Why Not!” won them Grammy Awards in two consecutive years during the early 1980s. Those two eventually turned into 10 Grammys, including one for their megahit “Boy from New York City.” Now inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, they have appeared with an impressive range of artists including Tony Bennett, Bette Midler, Frankie Valli, Smokey Robinson, Phil Collins, B.B. King, and James Taylor.

Despite the loss of founder Tim Hauser in 2014, the Manhattan Transfer has endured and is enthusiastically building on his legacy. Trist Curless (bass) joined the line-up, consisting of Janis Siegel (alto), Alan Paul (tenor), Cheryl Bentyne (soprano) who have been together since the late 1970s. They just finished a tour of the US with Take 6 and are looking forward to recording their 30th album in 2017.

Kingston Trio
Credited with launching American folk music into mainstream popularity, the legendary Kingston Trio topped the charts in the 1960s with songs from the storytelling “Tom Dooley” to the humorous “Tijuana Jail.” Their iconic sound influenced the musical tastes of a generation, paving the way for the folk singers who followed.

While hits such as “M.T.A.” and “Where Have All The Flowers Gone?” fit the music-with-a-message era and remain relevant today, part of their charm isthat they never take themselves too seriously. Over the years, the personnel of the group evolved and now includes George Grove, Bill Zorn and Rick Dougherty, each of whom brings a long history with the group and its original players, as well as their own musical experiences.

Awarded the Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award in 2011, the Kingston Trio’s songs sound as good today as they did when they first soared up the radio playlists. Any evening spent with the tight harmonies and smooth vocals of the Kingston Trio is about more than just memories, it’s memorable.

Tri-Valley Turkey Burn - 3rd Annual
Third Annual Tri-Valley Turkey Burn Run/Walk Adds Family Fun, Health and ‘Giving” to Thanksgiving Menu

The public is invited to kick off their Thanksgiving holiday by participating in the Third Annual Tri-Valley Turkey Burn, a free 5K walk and 10K family fun run on November 23. The popular local event organized by Pleasanton North Rotary (PNR) raises funds and provides in-kind donations for local youth services and Open Heart Kitchen, a non-profit that provides meals to anyone in need throughout the Tri-Valley area.

“The Turkey Burn is a healthy way to start the holiday and to burn calories before Thanksgiving dinner,” said Ron Sutton, founder of World Walk to Wellness Challenges and Turkey Burn’s master of ceremonies.

PNR will again provide new race bibs for the Tri-Turkey Burn printed with the phrase “I am thankful for …” instead of numbers to encourage walkers and runners to pen in their personal reasons for being thankful this Thanksgiving.

Participation in the Tri-Valley Turkey Burn is a meaningful way to show gratitude for the many gifts of the season and throughout the year. It’s also a great way to have a conversation with children and family members about the real meaning of the holidays, Sutton said.

The 5K and 10K courses are laid out on sidewalks that weave through Ken Mercer Sports Park (5800 Parkside Dr., Pleasanton) and along a portion of nearby Mocho Arroyo Trail. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. the walk and run starts at 9 a.m. Over 800 adults and kids are expected to attend.

To register, or for more information please visit Tri-Valley Turkey Burn and its Facebook page. Walk-ins are also welcome. Participants are asked to bring canned and non-perishable food items that will be collected by volunteers.

Donations will support PNR’s international student exchange program, local student participation in District 5170 Rotary’s annual Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) summer camp, academics scholarships, Rotary’s annual high school student speech contest, and student of the month recognition awards.

Corporate sponsors include Accusplit, Association Maintenance Services, Aspire Realty Services, Big O Tires, BRICK Northern California, Characterz Café, Club Sport, Complete Office Services, Cooper Sports Performance, Denali Data Systems, Fleet Feet, Namaste Pizza, Prodigy Performance, Pure Barre, Tri-Valley Health and Aesthetics and Venture Sotheby Realty.

Pleasanton Downtown Open House and Small Business Saturday
Small Business Saturday, November 25th, is the day we celebrate the Shop Small movement to drive shoppers to local merchants in Pleasanton and across the country. More than 20 Downtown Pleasanton businesses will be participating in this all day event and many are offering special discounts on shopping, dining and services. Balloons, stickers, shopping bags, pet bandanas, pens and more will be given to customers throughout the day as a thank you for supporting local businesses.

Free photos with Santa will also be offered at the Museum on Main located at 603 Main Street from 10am to 1pm.

Why shop in Downtown Pleasanton? Buying locally ensures our city stays extraordinary and the place to go. Local merchants get to know our local tastes and select merchandise with the local community in mind. You get personal attention. You feel connected. Our businesses make us special and give us a strong sense of loyalty for our city. The more unique we are as a community, the more we attract visitors, which benefits everyone. Shopping locally also keeps dollars in our economy. When we support our local businesses, our sales taxes are reinvested right here in Pleasanton. For every $100 spent at an independently owned Pleasanton store, $46 stays in the community. That makes Pleasanton extraordinary!

The Snow Queen - Livermore School of Dance
Once upon a time there was a wicked mirror that shattered into a million pieces. If a piece infected your heart, it would turn to ice. A strong wind blows into town and a young sister becomes the victim of the mirror and of the evil Snow Queen, who steals her away. The older sister is devastated and spends the rest of winter, missing her sister. Come spring, she sets out to find her and ends up traveling through the seasons for a year, meeting new friends and facing challenges, all the while determined to bring her sister home.
