Shakespeare's Associates - The Real Thing From the author of Shakespeare in Love By Tom Stoppard Directed by Lisa A. Tromovitch “A play which reminds you why you go to the theater and why you fall in
love.” —Sheridan Morley, The Spectator Tom Stoppard’s shimmering exploration
of love and betrayal, loyalty and sacrifice. One of today’s greatest minds
explores love among adults. How do we know ‘the real thing’ in love, in
life, in art? This exploration is played out in the theatrical world of
writers and actors … can they tell reality from fantasy? |

Ottmar Liebert and Luna Negra
At the Bankhead Theater |
July 14 Wednesday |
Ottmar Liebert and Luna Negra After a sold-out performance in 2008, Ottmar Liebert and Luna Negra return to the Bankhead Theater on Wednesday, July 14, 2010. This is a performance you won't want to miss! Tickets go on sale to the public Tuesday, March 23rd at 12:00 Noon. "With his engaging mix of subdued flamenco guitar and South American percussion, rock, jazz, and pop influences, German guitarist Ottmar Liebert's "attitude" actually suppresses the more challenging and "dangerous" aspects of flamenco in favor of the romantic and the stylish. His feel for the music's innate sensuality and a gift for creating memorable melodies helped to bring flamenco to the mainstream." –All Music Guide Liebert's incredible global success on a musical level often seems like a simple outgrowth of his cultural background and powerful wanderlust in his formative years. Born in Cologne, Germany to Chinese-German father and Hungarian mother, he began playing guitar at 11, and traveled extensively through Europe and Asia intent on fully absorbing each musical tradition he encountered. After pursuing his Rock and Roll dreams first in his native Germany and then in Boston, he abandoned the frustrations of the East coast and settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico. By 1989, he had founded the first incarnation of his new band Luna Negra.
Nouveau Flamenco began life as a self-produced local release called Marita:
Shadows and Storms, copies of which local Indian artist Frank Howell
distributed in his art galleries. When the record found its way to radio
stations and began generating a buzz among programmers and an unprecedented
response among listeners, Higher Octave Music picked it up and released a
fully remastered version. Liebert has since become one of the most
successful instrumental artists of the past decade, thrilling audiences
throughout the world and releasing a catalog of classic recordings. |

Joseph' Technicolor Dreamcoat Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is the Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors that comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. Joseph, his father’s favorite son, is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams. Sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged. Eventually his brothers, having suffered greatly, find themselves groveling at the feet of the brother they betrayed but no longer recognize. After testing their integrity, Joseph reveals himself leading to a heartfelt reconciliation of the sons of Israel. Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock ‘n’ roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless. Art Under the Oaks
Alden Lane Photos
|
July 24 & 25 Saturday and Sunday |
Art Under the Oaks Livermore Art Association and Alden Lane Nursery present the 24th annual Art Under the Oaks fair the weekend of July 24 & 25. The event combines art, food and live music under the beautiful oak canopy of Alden Lane. 40 local artists will display art for sale, offering an array of paintings, prints, pottery, jewelry, baskets, fiber arts and photography. Other activities include fruit tasting, live music, wine tasting and door prizes every hour. As a special event, the Tri-Valley Woodcarvers are selling hand-carved
pieces of the historic downtown Livermore flagpole. The flagpole was raised
at the center of Livermore in 1905, after an enthusiastic funding campaign
supported by everyone in town. It was made of pine, 126 feet high, and cost
$207 to make. The community rallied around the idea and saved for 4 years to
afford the 2 1/2 ton pole. The flagpole has been a central symbol to
Livermore, but recently large splits in the wood made it in danger of
falling, so it was replaced. The Woodcarvers have created many sculptures
from the pieces, which will be on display and available for purchase. The show is open from 11:00 am - 4:00 both days, with free admission.
Alden Lane Nursery is at the corner of Holmes and Alden Lane in Livermore.
Overflow parking will be available at Sunset Plaza, at the corner of
Concannon & Holmes. There is a free shuttle to the nursery. For more
information go to
www.aldenlane.com or call the LAA Gallery at 925-449-9927. |
