A Chorus Line A Chorus Line is a musical about seventeen Broadway dancers auditioning for spots on a chorus line. The book was authored by James Kirkwood, Jr. and Nicholas Dante, lyrics were written by Edward Kleban, and music was composed by Marvin Hamlisch. The original Broadway production, directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett, was an unprecedented box office and critical hit, receiving 12 Tony Award nominations and winning nine of them, in addition to the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It's A Spring Fling - Downtown Pleasanton “It’s a Spring Fling” will he held in Downtown Pleasanton from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, May 8, presented by the Pleasanton Downtown Association. There is no admission fee. The event is on, rain or shine. Shops, restaurants and businesses will celebrate Spring with appetizers, drinks, live entertainment, festive decorations, and lots of surprises. Look for a bouquet of balloons in front of participating locations. There will be live entertainment and refreshments in many locations. Volunteers dressed like Spring Fairies will be handing out programs throughout the evening. A downtown photographer will be taking pictures in her studio of mothers with their children. This will include a free photo. There will be drawings for gift certificates and merchandise at participating businesses and no purchase is necessary to enter the drawings. Each participating merchant will give a special fresh flower to customers making purchases and as customers shop and support downtown they will gather their own bouquet of flowers to take home. Dancing Through Relationships For the first time, the Las Positas Dance Department will be performing at the Bankhead Theater. The dances are all original pieces developed for the show Dancing Through Relationships. The performance shows a variety of styles including jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, tap, lyrical and modern. The second act is the three piece suite telling the story of three young couples who are pulled apart by a war how their lives interact with the people around them. Choreographers include the Las Positas College students, Amy Danya, Brian Drogosch, Victoria George (faculty), and Shanna Ottsletter. Lark in the Park - Kottinger Park “Lark in the Park,” led my a museum docent and sponsored by Pleasanton’s Museum On Main, takes you one Saturday each month to one of Pleasanton’s local parks and helps you explore the local history that surrounds it. Participants begin each event at the designated park where the activities will take place. This month is a visit to Kottinger Park. All events are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. An information sheet on each park will be handed out. Photos of the parks will be available for purchase, $5 for one quality photo; $1 for one photocopy. An activity related to that park’s history will be presented. Yearly membership in the Lark in the Park is $25 per person and includes passport, binder, and one photo of each park’s special history. Donations are gratefully accepted and a portion will go toward the Museum’s Educational Scholarship Fund. The goal this year is to raise $1,000 for a competitive scholarship between the two high schools. It all takes place at the Duarte Garage located on the old Lincoln Highways at the corner of Portola and L Streets in Livermore. Lynn Owens is the auctioneer and when he is on the podium, one never knows what you wind up taking home. More donations are welcomed. Pleasanton Antique Faire It’s the antique show you’ve been waiting for. Don’t miss it. The semi-annual Pleasanton Downtown Association Antique and Collectible Street Faire is back and will be held on Sunday, May 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Main Street. Admission is free. The event is sponsored by the Pleasanton Downtown Association and produced Jerry and Betsy Goldman of Turn Key Productions. This event is an antique lover’s dream featuring vintage, retro, and antique home furnishings, clothing, furniture, jewelry, paintings, books, etc. Over a mile of antiques and collectibles will be displayed by more than 400 professional dealers from all over the West, all twenty years or older. This is the 18th year for this outstanding Downtown Pleasanton event that is one of the largest antique faires in the eleven Western states. Spend the day shopping for that special treasure and prepare to be dazzled by the vast array of quality items available not only from the antique dealers but in the shops throughout downtown. The show will feature free appraisals by Steve Yvaska, noted appraiser and Journalist. The appraisals will run from 10:00AM to 1:00PM.
