Historical Wineries

Livermore winemaking dates back to 1849, when Robert Livermore's grapes, planted in 1946 would have first produced a vintage.
Charles Wetmore brought quality to California wines, starting Cresta Blanca Winery in 1882. He won the grand prize at the 1889 Paris International Exposition.
The photo at the right is the old Ruby Hill winery, built in 1887. It burned in 1989, and was demolished in 2002. The bricks were used on the new Ruby Hill winery building.

The following wineries are no longer in existence. In many cases, the buildings or ruins do exist today.

All of the existing buildings except the restaurant were from Cresta Blanca. The restaurant was built on the foundation of the Cresta Blanca tasting room.
