Livermore-Amador Symphony Concert
Look out, audience! Just as Marlon Brando and his gang of “wild ones” roared into the quiet little town of Hollister and took over, a notorious band of four hot-rodding musicians will rumble in and take over the concert hall in pop culture maven Michael Daugherty’s musical tale in which bassoons become Harley-Davidsons. Ironic companion works include a heavenly scene from Humperdinck’s fairy-tale opera, as well as visits to the mythological Pluto’s Underworld and Wotan’s Valhalla.

Truffles, Tidbits, and Wine Tasting - Pleasanton Downtown Association.
This is a sweetheart of an event, an evening to be shared with friends or that special “someone”. The event kicks off at The Rose Hotel, 807 Main Street, Pleasanton.

Participants will receive a commemorative wine glass, map, and of course, enjoy “Truffles, Tidbits and Wine Tasting.” Wineries of the Livermore Valley Winegrowers Association will be pouring red and white wines, ports, dessert wines and champagnes. Each participating business will feature sweet treats and/or hors d’oeuvres to pair with the selections being poured.

Tickets may be purchased in advance at a discounted price of $25 between January 8th and February 7th. Only eight hundred (800) tickets will be offered for this event and will be available for purchase beginning January 8, at the following locations: The Rose Hotel, 807 Main Street; Clover Creek, 670 Main Street; Studio 7 Fine Arts, 77 West Angela Street and the Pleasanton Downtown Association office, 830-A Main Street. This event has been a sell out every year so don’t wait until the last minute to purchase your tickets. If there are any remaining tickets available, they will be sold on the evening of the event at the Rose Hotel for $30.00 beginning at 5:45 p.m. All tickets must be redeemed for glasses by 7:30 p.m.

Concannon Winemaker Dinner, “Rocks, Wines and Valentines” to benefit Museum On Main

“Rocks, Wines & Valentines,” a sumptuous four-course gourmet Concannon Winemaker Dinner, benefiting the Museum On Main’s Pleasanton Exhibit Room, will be held beginning with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, February 12 at Pleasanton Hotel, 855 Main Street. Tickets are $100 per person or $750 for a table for eight. The reservation deadline is Saturday, February 3.

Included in the festive evening will be a “two-bit” auction and a talk by Jim Concannon on the history of the Concannon Winery and valley winemaking.

The menu will include: reception - seafood cakes with lemon aioli, Stamp Makers White wine; first course - Chardonnay poached pears on mixed baby greens with spiced nuts, green apple, citrus vinaigrette and Concannon Chardonnay 2005; second course: grilled pepper-crusted filet mignon stuffed with wild mushrooms and Applewood smoked bacon with cassis cabernet demi-glace, roasted fingerling potatoes, grilled vegetables and Concannon Reserve Cabernet 2003; dessert
chocolate and Gorgonzola cheesecake and Concannon Petite Syrah 1998 and 1999.

ALVHS Lecture - A Visit with John Muir
A great event for the entire family, “A Visit with John Muir,” a talk by former Pleasanton school teacher Frank Helling, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 15 at the Museum On Main, 603 Main Street, Pleasanton.

Dressed as Muir, Helling will recount the explorations and history-making events in the life of Muir, a naturalist, conservationist, writer and the founder of the Sierra Club.

Celebrate Black History Month at Living Ship Day on the Aircraft Carrier USS Hornet Museum

Celebrate Black History Month onboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Hornet Museum on Saturday, February 17 with special exhibits and family activities. A presentation on the role of Afro-Americans in the military will take place at 1 p.m. on the main deck of the ship.

As part of this important event that focuses on African-American history, visitors can also participate in pilot mission briefings, witness aircraft being lifted to the flight deck, and sit in the cockpit of a fighter jet. Aircraft flight simulations will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Museum admission is $14 for adults and $6 for kids (5-17). A special price of $20 for a family (up to four people) is being offered on this day.

There will be a Flashlight Tour from 8:30 – 11 a.m. for those who want a more in-depth look at an aircraft carrier. The tour includes areas not open to the general public. Cost is $35 per person and includes all-day admission.

Americans have recognized black history annually since 1926, first as "Negro History Week" and later as "Black History Month." Join in continuing this tradition as the USS Hornet Museum celebrates the contributions of African-Americans to our nation.

Each month, the USS Hornet Museum hosts a themed "Living Ship" demonstration that brings the ship to life. Adults and kids alike are given the unique opportunity to experience the operations of a floating airfield through simulated flight operations and special activities.

The museum in located at 707 W. Hornet Avenue, Pier 3 in Alameda and there is plenty of free parking.

About the Aircraft Carrier USS Hornet Museum
The USS Hornet Museum is a non-profit organization with the goal of inspiring people of all ages to experience naval history, science, and space technology first-hand. A registered State and National Historic Landmark, the USS Hornet is permanently docked at the former Naval Air Station in Alameda and is open to the public. Regular admission prices are $6-$14 and there is ample free parking across from the pier.
