Term Limits: In Nov 2003 election, term limits were added
as follows: Mayor: Terms of 8 consecutive years (4 terms). May re-run after 2 year break. City council: Terms of 8 consecutive years (2 terms). May re-run after 2 year break. City council / Mayor combination: Terms of 16 consecutive years of service in the combination of positions. May re-run after 2 year break. Serving a portion of a term is considered the full term if served for one half of the term plus one day. Terms served before the Nov 2003 enactment are not counted. The mayor and city council elections are now held on even numbered years starting in 2014 to save money on elections. 2011 was the last year of mayor and city council elections on odd numbered years. All terms were extended by one year in the transition. Starting in 2020 the City Council will be District Based. See the district map here. Districts 3 and 4 (South side) will be elected in 2020 and every 4 years thereafter. Districts 1 and 2 (north side) will be elected in 2022 and every four years thereafter. |
