Snow in Yosemite

March 20, 2011

On Sunday morning, we awoke to snow, which never stopped.
I wiped about 3 inches of snow off of the car when I went out to put the chains on.
By the time we left there was another 2 inches back on the car.
We decided to leave around noon as we were worried about the roads closing.
140 was the only one open I think, and it was closed temporarily due to a slide.
He had to go around several very small slides, and an 18" or so tree fell across the road about 10 cars in front of us.
That resulted in only about a 30 minute delay as a snow plow came.  The guy got out and used a chain saw to cut it up, then pushed it aside, clearing the road.
The next day all of the roads were closed due to slides, etc.  Power was lost for several days in the entire Yosemite Valley.
But is was beautiful.

All of the photos below were taken around the Ahwahnee Hotel.

Taken from our hotel room.  We awoke to his view.
Compare to the photo below, which is a similar view.
Note that upper Yosemite falls is visible below, along with the mountain.
The fog obscures it today, but the view is equally spectacular.

A similar shot the day before.

No, this is not a black and white photo.  The subject matter is, however.

The camera flash was meant to light up the roof beams, which it did, but it also lit up some of the closer snow flakes.
It was snowing in all of the photos of this page.
