Broadway Chorus Sings Your Favorites!  - Tri-Valley Repertory Theatre
Dying to know which musicals won last spring's audience survey of your favorite Broadway musicals? The wait is over, the votes have been tallied and the results are in!

Come listen as TVRT's Broadway Chorus "Sings Your Favorites!" on January 10, 11 & 12, 2014. This concert is sure to be an audience pleaser, after all, YOU picked the music! And, it wouldn't be a Broadway Chorus concert without the Broadway Kids, who will join in with their favorite songs from your favorite musicals.

While Jenny Matteucci and Daniel Lockert take a break to pursue educational and career goals, Glen Riggs, Broadway Kids Director, will take over as Interim Music Director of Broadway Chorus. Glen is familiar to chorus and audience alike. He started singing with the chorus in 1992, and he's been a featured singer for several seasons. The chorus also welcomes interim accompanist Chris Erwin, whose experience includes a stint with California State University East Bay Theater Department.

Tickets are available by calling 925.462.2121, by visiting the TVRT Broadway Chorus website at www.broadwaychorus.org, or by purchasing them at the door. Tickets are $18, $17 for seniors 60 and over, and $10 for juniors under 18.

Use the code word "FAVE" and get ten percent off the ticket price.

So go like "greased lightning" to get your tickets...that's the only hint we're giving you!

The Special Consensus
Grammy nominated for Best Bluegrass Album 2012, TSC is a superb four-man acoustic band in the classic vein, but with more than enough modern sensibilities. The vocals are spotless, the playing as shiny as a newly minted penny, and music like this is the reason people come to love bluegrass! TSC comes at the music with boundless energy and an aesthetic reverence that tickles the ribs, tugs at the heart, and puts a restless two-step in boots and bare feet!

Wailin' Jennys
“Show-stopping harmonies, impressive instrumental prowess, and breathtaking songs.” / ONTARIO ARTS REVIEW What started as a happy accident of singer-songwriters uniting for a one-time-only performance at a tiny guitar shop in Winnipeg, Manitoba has evolved into one of the most beloved of international folk acts, the Wailin’ Jennys. Nicky Mehta, Ruth Moody and Heather Masse’s three distinct voices combine in achingly-perfect harmonies, creating some of the most exciting and exquisite music on the folk-roots scene. Their beguiling mix of Americana, pop and traditional folk styles is delivered with the dynamic and irresistible vocal power of three.

The Drowsy Chaperone - Tri-Valley Repertory Theater - Main Stage
A rare combination of unprecedented originality and blinding talent, The Drowsy Chaperone boldly addresses a great unspoken desire in all of our hearts: to be entertained. If you’ve ever sat in a dark theatre and thought, “Dear Lord in heaven, please let it be good,” this is the show for you! It all begins when a die-hard musical-theatre fan plays his favorite cast album on his turntable, and the musical literally bursts to life in his living room, telling the rambunctious tale of a brazen Broadway starlet trying to find, and keep, her true love.

For nearly two decades, guitarist Brian Gore has united some of the world’s foremost acoustic guitarists in a unique and intimate event that highlights collaboration and creativity. Each year, Gore invites three guitarists to present their latest works, then perform together, sharing musical ideas and demonstrating the diversity of the acoustic guitar world. Joining Gore in 2014 will be contemporary steel-string guitarists Pino Forastiere from Italy and Jon Gomm from England, as well as Quique Sinesi, an Argentinian master of guitar and charango. “These four talented musicians bring so much diversity and passion to each performance—a treat for every acoustic guitar fan.” / ARIZONA REPORTER

The Lincoln Highway: America's First Byway

ARMCHAIR TRAVELERS, a monthly program, will take place at the Livermore Public Library Civic Center on THURSDAY, JANUARY 9TH, 2014 from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. In 2013 our country celebrated the centennial of America’s first transcontinental highway, named for one of our greatest presidents, Abraham Lincoln. Almost a half century later Frank and Sigrid Rainer retraced as much of the original route as possible in order to celebrate Frank’s high school reunion in New York after 50 years as well. They traveled from the terminal point at Lincoln Park in San Francisco, though the little hamlet of Livermore, CA, covering thirteen states to wind up at the original starting point of Times Square in New York City.

Adults are invited to this free program on the second Thursday of each month in the Community Meeting Rooms of the Civic Center Library, 1188 S. Livermore Avenue, Livermore. For additional information please call 925 373-5500.

Laurie R. King Kicks Off Livermore Reads Together 2014
at the Livermore Public Library

The Kick Off event for Livermore Reads Together 2014 will be held Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the Livermore Public Library starting at 2pm. The featured speaker is Laurie R. King, author of the mystery novel The Beekeeper’s Apprentice.

Livermore Reads Together 2014 is a community reading program, featuring Laurie R. King’s novel The Beekeeper’s Apprentice. The community of Livermore is invited to read The Beekeeper’s Apprentice and join their neighbors by participating in events related to Sherlock Holmes, detectives, forensics, bees and more during the month of February 2014. Copies of books and event schedules will be available at all Livermore Public Library locations.

The Beekeeper's Apprentice is the story of 15-year-old Mary Russell, an American girl who unexpectedly encounters Sherlock Holmes during a ramble through the English countryside. Ostensibly retired, Holmes studies beekeeping and is still involved in detective work. Despite differences in age, attitude and background, Russell and Holmes become friends and sleuthing partners. Together they work to solve the kidnapping of
Jessica Simpson, daughter of a U.S. Senator. The Beekeeper’s Apprentice is the first book in Laurie R. King's Mary Russell series, which now includes twelve novels. The most recent installment, Garment of Shadows, was published in 2012. According to King, the Mary Russell series touches upon many issues, including “politics, women’s rights, religious expression, and governmental oppression.”
