Courtyard Concerts: featuring Meredity McHenry
Meredith has been singing since before she could talk and gave her first solo performance at 10 years old. After studying classical voice, musical theater, and jazz in college she took a sharp left turn and veered into the business world for a number of years. That road left her with the feeling that something was missing in her life. She knew music was that absent puzzle piece but had very little time to devote to a band or theatrical production between long hours in a grueling, high-stress, sales position. So, just to get her feet wet again she began singing karaoke in local bars, winning a number of contests along the way.

Singing effortlessly through selections by artists varying from Etta James & Ella Fitzgerald to TOOL & The Weeknd, Meredith & her network of truly talented local musicians have been entertaining audiences all over the Northern CA for 10+ years. Meredith & friends are known for their ability to recreate both well-known classics and under-the-radar gems with their unique stylistic blend of jazz, blues, rock, folk, country & pop.

Seating will be assigned.  Please no outside food or beverages.  Concessions will be available for purchase.

The San Francisco Comedy Competition

The San Francisco Comedy Competition
Now in its 46th year, the San Francisco Comedy Competition has helped launch a Who’s Who of comic champions. Over the years, legends such as Robin Williams, Dana Carvey, and Ellen DeGeneres have emerged from this stand-up comedy contest to become stars.

This year’s competition will be hosted by Tom Rhodes a world traveling comedian whose most recent releases include “Around The World,” recorded in 2019 in 24 cities from Paris to Jerusalem, and “The Honky Motherland” recorded in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. He also has a podcast, “Tom Rhodes Radio Smart Camp.” The New York Times describes him as “A mostly natural intellect with a knack for reporting the harsh realities of life with a dark and absurdly optimistic cynicism.”

Among the many competitions around the country, the format of the San Francisco Comedy Competition makes winning particularly challenging. The preliminary rounds consist of short stand up sets in six venues, which may include comedy clubs, bars, restaurants, casinos and theaters. Ten comedians proceed to the semi-finals for longer sets in six more venues, before moving to the finals, where the length of the sets increase to 12-15 minutes.

Since 2015, the Bankhead Theater has become a popular stop, one of the last on the semifinal circuit, where the competition keeps audiences on the edge of their seats … until they’re rolling in the aisle with laughter.

Mike Amaral's California Beach Boys

Mike Amaral's California Beach Boys
Mike Amaral became a musician in his youth and started a band called Flashback. Having spent a lot of time as a youth surfing and body surfing around Santa Cruz, Mike always wanted a Beach Boys tribute band. So he rounded up some other musicians, including a couple of cousins, and formed Mike Amaral’s California Beach Boys Experience in 2007. “The one prerequisite I had is to find people who love Beach Boys music. Our goal was and still is to play for people who want to come listen to this great music”, says Amaral, but he knew the challenges of doing Beach Boys music, which is why there are very few (pure) Beach Boys bands out there. “We acknowledge the Beach Boys all the time. There simply isn’t any more fun music around and it’s such an honor to perform.” “It’s all about the music,” says Amaral. “Our goal has always been to replicate the music and concert experience so the audience member doesn’t know if they’re in 1966 or 2021. In our minds it doesn’t matter who is playing the music, rather how good it is; pleasing our audience members is what’s important.

Beginning with those famous harmonies, they perform Surfin’ Safari, Surfin’ USA, Catch a Wave, Hawaii, Surfer Girl and so many more. Then came the car songs, 409, Shut Down, Little Deuce Coupe, then I Get Around, California Girls, Hush a bye, Help Me Rhonda, Barbara Ann, Good Vibrations and so, so many more in this two-hour concert. With their original outfits and equipment, all these great songs and more will be performed by this international band and it may be the best concert you have ever been to…Honestly! We want the audience members to feel like they’re at a 1960’s Beach Boys Concert, including authentic outfits, equipment, and of course those famous harmonies” says Amaral.
